Sustainable Development Goals at WCP 2025

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, comprise 17 goals and 169 targets that all UN Member States have pledged to achieve by 2030. These goals chart a path toward a world free from poverty, hunger, and disease, where sustainable progress benefits all people.

At WCP 2025, we are dedicated to contributing to these global objectives by aligning our event and operations with the SDGs. We strive to integrate these principles throughout our value chain, working towards a more sustainable and equitable future. The SDGs we champion and actively support include:

Being part of WCP 2025 – How can you contribute?

As individuals and as a community, we all share the responsibility of maintaining the ecological balance of our environment and preserving the planet’s natural systems and resources. At WCP 2025, we invite every participant to actively engage in these efforts. Here’s how you can contribute:

Goal 3: Ensure Healthy Lives and Promote Well-Being for All at All Ages

At WCP 2025, we embrace the principle that well-being is not merely a desirable outcome, but a fundamental core value that infuses every aspect of our congress. As stewards in the field of psychiatry, our moral imperative extends beyond the clinical setting, compelling us to prioritize the well-being of our patients, colleagues, and the broader society.

Here’s how we put this into action at WCP 2025:

  • Healthy and nutritious food: We will serve fresh and locally sourced meals, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, during our coffee breaks.

  • Sustainability: We are committed to using reusable dishware, compostable materials, and avoiding single-use plastics to minimize our environmental impact.

Goal 4: Ensure Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education and Promote Lifelong Learning Opportunities for All

WCP 2025 is a vibrant hub of knowledge, bringing together thousands of attendees to share insights, learn, and raise the standards of clinical practice and ethics in psychiatry. Our commitment to education goes beyond traditional boundaries, ensuring our scientific program is not only enriching but also accessible and inclusive for all participants.

Here’s how we put this into action at WCP 2025:

  • Providing scholarships: Ensuring that participants from underrepresented or economically disadvantaged backgrounds can access the wealth of knowledge shared at the congress.

  • Offering digital resources: Making key educational materials available online, further promoting accessibility and learning for all.

Goal 5: Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls

At WCP 2025, we are deeply committed to advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls within the fields of psychiatry and mental health. We recognize the significant role gender plays in shaping mental health outcomes and access to care, and we aim to create a platform that amplifies the voices, contributions, and needs of women and girls.

To support this vision, we have established an E.D.I.T. (Equality, Development, Inclusion, and Transcultural) Presidential Advisory Group for WCP 2025. This group addresses the evolving needs for greater inclusion of geographically diverse populations, across different genders and ages. Our goal is to break down barriers to equality in the profession and ensure that our scientific program, leadership opportunities, and collaborative initiatives reflect the diversity and strength of our global community.

Here’s how we put this into action at WCP 2025:

  • E.D.I.T. Presidential Advisory Group: Established to promote equality, development, inclusion, and transcultural diversity within the congress.

  • Inclusive Scientific Program: Ensuring our program reflects diverse voices, gender representation, and inclusive perspectives.

  • Leadership Opportunities: Actively supporting women and girls in leadership roles within psychiatry and mental health.

Goal 12: Ensure Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns

At WCP 2025, we are committed to promoting sustainability throughout the event by reducing our environmental impact and encouraging sustainable practices. We aim to set a positive example for all attendees and exhibitors, ensuring that our congress contributes to a greener, more sustainable future.

Here’s how we put this into action at WCP 2025:

  • Reducing Single-Use Giveaways: We encourage all exhibitors to minimize single-use giveaways at their stands, promoting more sustainable alternatives.

  • Digital Course Materials: All course materials will be available in digital format, reducing paper waste and improving accessibility for participants.

  • Electronic Certificates: Course attendance certificates will be sent electronically, reducing the need for printed materials.

  • Recycling WPA Branded Lanyards: WPA branded lanyards will be collected and recycled after use onsite, reducing waste and supporting recycling initiatives.

  • Selective Waste Collection: We will have designated bins for paper, combustible waste, glass, and tins throughout the venue to ensure proper waste management.

  • Exhibition-Related Waste: Containers will be provided for specific types of exhibition-related waste to maximize recycling efforts.

  • Sustainable Catering: Recycled water bottles and biodegradable cups will be used by our catering services, minimizing single-use plastics.

  • Water Dispensing Stations: Water dispensers will be placed around the venue, and we strongly recommend participants bring their own water bottles and refill them, further reducing plastic waste.
